THE CARRIAGE GALLERY
The primary exhibition area for the Old Pomona Railway Station Art Gallery is "The Carriage" which hosts a new artistic exhibition every 4-5 weeks.
The works featured are all by local astists and the styles on show vary from traditional painting in oils, acrylics and watercolour to sculpture, woodwork, collage, mixed media and photography. This gallery has become a favourite of locals and visitors alike, with its vibrant exhibitions and exiting presentations.
Although not part of the original gallery setup, the Carriage has quickly earned a reputation for quality exhibitions with reasonably priced works by local artists.
November 2001:
Acquired on behalf of Pomona Progress.Art.Tourism Inc. from Queensland Rail by then Cr. Brian Lindfield, the Heritage Fleet box car arrived on the back of a jinker. It was lifted from the truck by a Kelly Green 70 tonne crane onto a section of rail laid in front of the Gallery “platform”. Still covered in graffiti it looked a sorry site but over time and as funds became available with a few coats of paint and an access ramp, it was finally ready.
December 1, 2007:
The official opening of "The Carriage" as a gallery was celebrated with an exhibition by local Cooran artist Lynda Black. The opening also saw the recently arrived Hinterland Art Group become the "artists in residence". Since then, new lighting has been fitted and more paint has been applied and many successful exhibitions have been hosted.
