EMBRACING OUR COMMUNITY

Carriage Gallery - Old Pomona Railway Station Gallery

July 9th, 2011 - August 11th, 2011

Official opening 2:00pm Saturday 9th July, 2011

The Hinterland Art Group's annual exhibition

in conjunction with Lions Club

King Of The Mountain

un run is on again and

the theme for 2011 is

“Embracing our Community”

Once again the Hinterland Art Group Artists have got together to create a “combined art work”. This years signature paining features the now familiar fig tree in the foreground overlooking Lake McDonald with Mt Coorora in the distance.

Window over the Hinterland to Mt Coorora

"Window over the Hinterland to Mt Coorora"

The tradition of this “Group Painting” founds its origins in a suggestion by a group member to do a collaborative work consisting of 15 squares, placed in a window frame.  The first and original painting “Hinterland Dreaming” was created and exhibited in 2010 in the Butter Factory at Cooroy.  This painting was bought on the very first day of that exhibition, and further more as a result of that exhibition a second collaborative works was commissioned.  This painting “A View to the Glasshouse Mountains” was recently completed and hangs in the Banana Shed during this King of the Montain exhibition.  It is a slightly larger collaboration which the artists were especially commissioned to create.

The artists have enjoyed working on these collaborative pieces and so a “signature” series has been created.

Each artist prepares their “square” individually, based on colours as advised by our colour coordinator and then sets to work in creating their “individual” square.  When combined and placed in the frame the collaborative painting is achieved.

COLOUR AND LIGHT

An exhibition of Oil Paintings by artist Jenny Pate

"Colour and Light" - Jenny PateAn absolute country girl, I have lived in rural areas of Qld most of my life. Married to a builder for almost 40 years with four children and grandchildren we were also farmers for much of that time and now live near Gympie and grow rainforest timber and keep a few horses. I love trailriding and this enables me to make the most of the natural wonders of the beautiful area I live in.

I'm mostly self taught but I have a Diploma of Commercial Art and Graphic Design from Stotts Correspondence College and have studied traditional oils with Peter Caley and done a couple of workshops with John Wilson, both of whom I consider to be brilliant artists.

My favourite subjects include land and seascapes, animals (especially horses), birds, wildlife, Australian heritage scenes with draught horses and and bullock teams and have done many of these as commissions on crosscut saws and creamcans as well as canvas. I've also done some scuba diving so I love underwater scenes.

I find it very rewarding to create paintings for other people from their photos and ideas and some of my paintings have headed off overseas to England, Scottland, China, New Zealand, Germany and America.

My favourite medium is oils for their true colour and versatility, but I believe painting is more about colour and light and inspiritation than subject matter or medium.

I have recently begun teaching oil painting and am enjoying passing on what I have learnt along the way.

Here are some of the wonderful works on display in Jenny's exhibition

Ann Gustavsson (agymcha)

AnnRolf Gustavsson - Enriched ByHaving retired from the workforce and moved to this beautiful hinterland at Pomona about a decade ago, I felt that it was so right to pursue my interest in painting.

Learning to portray the beauty and the joy of simple things in life has enriched all aspects of my life.

My article which featured in the January issue of Australian Artist Magazine this year, summarized how far I have come and I am very pleased with where my work is taking me.

I am looking forward to the challenge to move onto the next level.

Time to stop and smell the roses so to speak, I hope to share the wonderful feelings with you, the viewer!

Old Pomona Railway Station - Art Gallery

Teewah

Artist: Michele Knightley:

Teewah Midden - Michele Knightley

In this exhibition I have tried to convey a glimpse of what I call the Teewah experience. Teewah is a small town on the Noosa North Shore with a unique vibe that can only be found in a beachside village.

Accessible only by four wheel drive vehicles at low tide you must first cross the Noosa River by vehicle ferry to begin the Teewah experience

After driving through wallum wetlands for a short time you then pass through a sandy access track out on to the beach. I always find this moment an uplifting experience where the power and beauty of nature confronts you. Depending on the weather the beach is always different but always beautiful.

Extending from Noosa Heads to Double Island Point, Teewah beach is was once known 40 mile beach, famous for its coloured sands and the shipwreck of the Cherry Venture. The small village of Teewah started life in the 1950’s as a tiny town dotted with fisherman’s cottages and holiday homes. It still retains some of this original charm although the 21st century has arrived in Teewah with the availability of electricity and the appearance of large modern homes sticking up strangely between the small modest fisherman’s shacks. The streets are named after fish species – tailor, mulloway, whiting, mackerel, swallowtail, stargazer – while the cottages bear such titles as ‘Mullet mansion’ ‘Heaven’ and ‘Reel ‘em inn’

Also included in this exhibition is a slide show of photographs taken by my mum Noelene Knightley and myself. We hope you will enjoy the Teewah experience as much as my family and I do.

Michele is an artist from Cootharaba who grew up in Noosa from an early age. After completing her schooling at Noosa High School, she began working as a Potter in Eumundi. Now working in the field of visual arts, Michele brings her interest in botany to her artwork, painting habitats and plant species of the Noosa area.

“Cooloola, part of the Great Sandy Region, is an amazing windsculpted wilderness. Its formation over the last 400 000 years has created a unique coastline with a rich diversity of local plant communities. I feel a strong connection with the wallum country that surrounds the Noosa River and extends east to the surf of the Pacific Ocean. Through my art, I aim to present viewers with the opportunity to become more familiar with the intimate details of the local landscape that mean so much to me.”
