"ACHIEVING HEIGHTS" Exhibition - July 24, 2010 until August 26, 2010
ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP
The annual "Achieving Heights" exhibition was opened on Saturday 24th July 2010 by the President of the Hinterland Art Group Lies Donovan.
This year the theme is "All The Way To The Top" and is again a group exhibition in the sense that members of the Hinterland Art Group have contributed individually but collectively. All the contributing artists are at various stages of their artistic journey in various disciplines such as painting, pottery, ceramics, woodwork and photography. Some are professional, some have received art awards and prizes, some have been commissioned to do works, some teach and for some the journey has just begun.
The journey for "All The Way To The Top" began in February 2010, after the "Hinterland Dreams" exhibition when the Hinterland Art Group sold its group painting and was commissioned to do another one (or maybe two) more. The theme of the current exhibition was designed to coincide with the annual Pomona "King Of The Mountain" festivities and fun run up Mt Cooroora and back. The artists were encouraged to interpret the theme in whichever way appropriate . Many artists made their way to the top of the mountain at a leisurely pace - some 438 metres high - and took in the colours, light and shadows, the finer details of nature and through this, inspiration and creativity took over and the results are on display in this exhibition.
This exhibition tells a story of the mountain, the journey both physically and artistically. It tells a story of inspiration, interpretation and expression which perhaps will motivate the observer to make the climb, to challenge themselves and experience what the artists have done. Perhaps you will just love the colours, the composition or the texture of the works. For the artists the joy comes from within and it is that joy that they share in this exhibition.

Of Ocean and Earth
Trisha Howie and Beverley Watkin are exhibiting their new art work in "The Carriage" at the Old Pomona Railway Station Gallery. Exhibition dates: Saturday April 10th to Thursday May 13th, 2010

Trisha’s intricately constructed framed work is a delight to behold and captures the viewer’s attention and then holds it, while each tiny detail leads to the next. Some of her artworks have been incorporated into coffee tables, which are both functional and engaging.
Beverley has previously participated in group exhibitions at the Old Railway Gallery, and this time is showcasing both quirky ceramic pieces and her bright cheerful acrylic paintings.
Trisha Howie
A born scavenger and collector of flotsam and jetsam, I do most of my walking with eyes glued to the ground, hoping to find treasures I can use in my work… a dropped feather, a dead butterfly, a fallen nest, even a lizard who has run out of luck and can live again in a picture.
I’ve walked hundreds of beach miles looking for the sea’s treasures to make my shell pictures – little crabs (dead of course), seaweed, driftwood, sea glass, pebbles, sand – and always hoping to find that special piece I’ve never seen before.
And something I really love about my work … I’m always being given little parcels of discovered offerings from people who share my love of finding hidden treasures in nature’s wonderful world that are lying there, waiting to be seen and loved.
Beverley Watkin
For 20 years I worked as a professional potter/clayworker, having graduated with an Advanced Diploma Art/Ceramics from Southbank TAFE.
On “retirement” I turned to painting which I had incorporated into my clay work over the years. I would describe my two dimensional work as contemporary realism.
I have participated in joint exhibitions locally and have enjoyed several workshops in Toowoomba, Grafton and elsewhere with well known artists – I work mostly in acrylics and watercolors.

Trisha has carefully selected beautiful natural beach objects arranging and displaying them in a variety of wall and floor furnishings. Visitors to the Old Railway Station Gallery will have already enjoyed being surrounded by Trisha’s creative energy, every week the garden design and growth is arranged by her energetic direction. Her obvious pleasure in finding beautiful small flowers of all colours to fill the visitors eyes is also shown in the new artwork for this exhibition. Attention to detail and composition are applied in each underwater and cottage scene Trisha has made. These artworks show the creative expression which reflects the joy of life Trisha herself exudes.

Beverley has reveled in the colour and rhythmic patterns found when looking at the earth and the ocean. She has created paintings and ceramic pieces which playfully show coral, fish, waves and sand patterns. Bright stylized ceramic fish are glued to canvas or hang as free flying wind chimes, whirlpools of jellyfish and coral blissfully float on paintings on canvas, views of sand dunes disappear towards the ocean or sky, all these artworks are made by this versatile and talented artist.

Every where we look

That is the Soul |
Local Sunshine Coast artist Debra Dougherty has her first Solo Art Exhibition at the Old Railway Station Gallery, Pomona.
Exhibition dates: Saturday 30th January, 2010 until Thursday 4th March, 2010.
| This exhibition shows the Artists' progressive visual story, including many expressive colourist paintings created over 20 years. The images show a repetition of mark making has emerged. These marks tell the story of the feelings and philosophy the artist experiences. |
 |
The images reflect real life situations such as remembering being near a big burn off or grass fire as a little child. Some paintings are dream like and reflect desired beliefs such as wanting to just be a part of the wind or waves. |
