Newsletter No. 7 November 2010
Time for another newsletter before the close of 2010.
The past six months have been very busy for HAG. At our AGM in July, almost all of our excellent Management team were returned. The one change was Deb stepping down as publicity Officer – she’s been replaced by Leonie Harvey. Thanks Deb for all your hard yakka and successes in promoting the work group and securing some valuable grants.
July was a very busy month for HAG. We had “The King of the Mountain Exhibition – All The Way to The Top” in the carriage at the Pomona Railway Gallery. Donna Goossens won the People’s Choice Award for her painting “Sunrise on the Forest Floor”. In conjunction with The King of The Mountain Race on Sunday, 25 July, we had a garage sale at the gallery, attracting many people who would not have normally visited the gallery and more importantly, a great fundraising and PR event. HAG also opened the gallery on Sundays for the duration of their Exhibition – well worthwhile in terms of extra visitor number and sales.
Alan Falls continued organising the very enjoyable social bus trips to art galleries; we visited GOMA again and also took in the numerous galleries in Fortitude Valley area. The group is getting toward the business end of another collaborative painting similar to the one undertaken for the exhibition earlier in the year at Cooroy Butter Factory last year. Again, in the foreground we have our ‘signature’ tree, however for this one the background Pinbarren vista is being replaced with a Glasshouse Mountains composite. This painting was commissioned by an admirer of our first ‘collaborative’. Thanks to Alan for all his hard work in drafting the outline of both pictures and for organising the most enjoyable bus trips to different galleries in the past year. One of our new activities this year has been the introduction of Artists’ Get Togethers; we’ve had two in the last six months, the first at Lies’ place and the second just recently at Jeff and Lorraine’s. Our next social event will be the Xmas party on 18/12/10 at the Banana Shed.
HAG has another exhibition, titled “Bright and Breezy”, opening in newly renovated Banana Shed at 2pm on Saturday, 27 November 2010. Thanks to Wally for the cabinet and carpentry work, and to the ‘team’ for the cleanup. One of our newest members, Simonne Celestine, has written a poem in honour of this exhibition. It’s been a busy and productive year for sure, with just enough challenges to make it interesting. Paint well, paint often.

Newsletter No. 6 April 2010
Hinterland Art Group’s exhibition “Hinterland Dreams” was opened by Fiona Simpson, MP (Member for Maroochydore since 1992) on Friday, 5 February 2010.
We were extremely honoured to have Fiona open the exhibition. She grew up on the Sunshine Coast and attended Cooroy and Yandina Primary and Nambour High School. She received her Graduate Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors last year and also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Japanese, Journalism and Government. In addition Fiona gained a Masters of Arts in Organisational Leadership majoring in organisational communication.
A total of 53 exhibits were accepted for the exhibition and included 8 wood turning pieces and three ceramic works.
The group’s large collaborative picture, “Hinterland Dreams’ was sold within two days of the opening and one painting, “Brooster and Friends” by Bev Watkin and a ceramic chook “Chook with Big Heart” by Jeff Fraser, were sold on opening night.
The opening was attended by over 120 people and deemed a great success.

Newsletter No. 5 January 2010
After a very eventful 2009, 2010 is promising to be one of the most exciting years in the history of Hinterland Art Group since the move from The Cooroy Butter Factory to The Old Pomona Railway Station Gallery in January 2008. It seems appropriate that we begin the year with an exhibition at the original location of the group at the former Cooroy Butter Factory now The Butter Factory Arts Centre.
This exhibition “Hinterland Dreams” is due to open on Friday, 5 February at 6pm. There are many great and interesting exhibits submitted by members and hopefully most of them will be included. Otherwise, there is another chance at group’s exhibition in July this year at the Old Pomona Railway Station Gallery. The inspiration of Leonie Harvey and the hard work by our President, Lies and many of the other members, has provided a unifying, creative base for the group, not only for the current exhibition but for the future.
